8vo hardcover, very good [sehr gut] condition, half-leather [halbleder] with four raised bands; printed paper-covered boards, decorated end papers; Moderate edge-wear, leather spine rubbed and edge-worn; textblock clean and tight, with the previous owner’s name [Dr. Ebstein] ink-stamped on the title page; 371pp., plus references [Litteraturverzeichnis] and table of contents.

 

Published November 1899, although dated 1900, Freud considered Die Traumdeutung the most significant of all his works.  “Insight such as this falls to one’s lot but once in a lifetime”, he wrote.  Although only 351 copies were sold during the first six years after publication, the book was widely noted in at least eleven specialist journals, and marked the beginning of a broader understanding of modern psychoanalysis.  "This is unquestionably Freud's greatest single work.” (PMM, p. 234).
